For the second year, MS STEM teacher, Dave McCallum, led a group of students in the IChallengUth summer program with Parker Hannifin in Richland. They learn about and research a real industry issue and develop solutions. Sophia Barbee, Tony Blackwood, Alayna Casarez, Robert Phillips and Landen Yocum made up this year’s team. They were asked to improve communication and scheduling issues with the PPAP, production part approval process. They did great and presented very viable solutions Parker might adopt.
For two weeks in July, two OHS students (pictured at left with HS computer science teacher, Michael Miller) took part in the IChallengeUth program in Ottawa County. Andnet Deboer and Craig Prause along with 4 other students from West Ottawa and Zeeland were given a business problem to solve. They were asked to create a more interactive and standout booth at Career Fairs to attract mechanical and control engineers. The final result was outstanding; the business says it plans to immediately implement many of their solutions.
